Join the community for Ansdell’s Christmas lights Switch On.
Friday 25 November 2016
Ansdell Institute from 4.30pm, Lights switched on at 5pm
Everyone is very welcome on the night.
Enjoy Christmas Carols from Ansdell Library Choir and a visit from
Santa who will switch on the Lights this year with a Ho, Ho Ho!
The vicar from St. Paul’s church will give a prayer, and there’s a
‘shout’ announcement from our local Town Crier, Colin Ballard.
Your M.C. for the evening will be Councillor Richard Redcliffe
and the Mayor of Fylde and your local M.P. have been invited.
There will be refreshments and snacks for the children attending and the bar will be open to warm your spirits for Christmas.
There will be some entertainment and the PA will be supplied by Richard Hook from Ansdell Baptist Church as usual.
Donations towards the Lights are most welcome, to keep our village
twinkling and fund more Christmas lights in Ansdell, which are mostly
paid for by donations from local traders.
We hope all the residents and children will come along as everyone is welcome. It’s always fun a very successful party!
More about Christmas Lights in Ansdell
Since the ‘regeneration’ of Ansdell the traders have worked hard to
bring festive cheer to the town and have purchased 25 new lamppost
Christmas light facades which can be erected each year for Christmas.
At £350 each plus VAT this has been a great initial
expense, plus a further cost of £100 plus VAT for EACH lamppost
every year for the displays to be taken down, stored and re-erected the
On top of this, each year is the expense of the tree which has
kindly been donated by the Rotary in Lytham – in return the community
have felt it only right to make a donation to Rotary for them helping in
this way, so along with transportation costs, lighting and safety
barriers, Christmas tree costs have exceeded £300 plus vat each year.
So this year Ansdell Traders have applied to Fylde Borough
Council for permission to plant a permanent tree outside Ansdell
Institute. Initially this will be small, but it will establish itself
and grow each year and Ansdell in Bloom have kindly offered to nurture
it and keep the tree from growing too big for its environment.
The Christmas team have also purchased lighting which has been erected in the street by a local trader and their staff.
Fylde Borough Council have provided a good donation to the Christmas
display, but ongoing costs are huge and funds need to be raised by the
local community to continue to enhance Ansdell each year with more
lighting. We may, therefore, be trying to raise funds in the future and
we may also just pass round the hat!! Any donations to the ongoing costs
of keeping Ansdell well lit for Christmas each year would be gratefully
accepted by our treasurer, Chris Roberts at Ansdell Post Office.
The traders in Ansdell are doing their best to keep festive spirit
alive and well and make the village a happy place to visit during the
festive season. Please help them with a small donation, go along to the
community switch on, and support your local shops throughout the year.
Merry Christmas everybody!
